| Course Description |
This elective course that will enable Technology Management Master’s students to develop the confidence and skills
in communication, self-reflection, emotional intelligence, and decision-making that are at the core of executive
presence. More specifically, honing executive presence in today’s work environments requires leaders to actively
engage with issues of difference, inclusion, and diversity and develop a working knowledge of power dynamics,
personal and organizational identities, and articulation of one’s vision and values. This course situates executive
presence alongside diversity equity and inclusion issues that arise in the technology management workplace. Core
topics in Executive Presence Today include: 1) establishing trust and credibility as an executive; 2) interpreting and
disrupting racism, exclusion, and bias; 3) communicating authentically; 4) driving internal and external change; and
5) making sound decisions in ambiguous, complex, high-stakes contexts.
Throughout the course, you will study executive presence through the lens of technology professionals, learning
from case studies and executives in the field from varied technology industries in corporate, mission-driven or non-
profit, and education contexts. You will explore how to lead with poise and confidence in a technology management
context where constant digital innovation and disruption are the norm. You will examine issues of cyber security
decision-making where establishing credibility among senior officials may present conflicts to your values,
identities, and closely held relationships. You will articulate a vision for how technology can be leveraged to
innovate and improve products, services, and company bottom lines while deepening your communication skills.
In this course, you will be learning about yourself as a leader and hone the skills of executive presence
through work in the field with mentor executives and peers, in-class collaborative learning experiences, regular
reflective writing, weekly public speaking assignments with immediate feedback, and written assignments.
