Dielectric and magnetic properties, ferroelectrics and ferromagnets. Conductivity and superconductivity. Electronic band theory of solids: classification of metals, insulators, and semiconductors. Materials in devices: examples from semiconductor lasers, cellular telephones, integrated circuits, and magnetic storage devices. Topics from physics are introduced as necessary. |
