Course Description | In this course, you will learn how to drive impact like a consultant, as well as how to engage a consultant to drive impact. Almost every successful senior executive and winning organization has worked with consultants at some time. Former consultants regularly end up taking top positions at major organizations. So, what can you learn from consultants? What makes them successful? Focusing on the specific needs and career stage of EMBA students, this course will distill a set of valuable learning from consultancy that can be applied in any job. The course will look at 3 things consultants do well – (1) knowing yourself and sharpening your personal value proposition, (2) defining and solving a problem quickly and pragmatically, and (3) coaching senior executives and catalyzing massive organizational change. The course will conclude with a focused session on working effectively with consulting partners. The course will start with a reflection on personal distinctiveness, i.e. what makes you special, and why should anyone listen to what you have to say? Then the course will provide an overview of some of the best problem-solving tools and put these into practice in a short consulting-style project. Then the course will talk about ways to win the trust and earn the right to advise the most senior folks, and then the course will touch on how to envision and catalyze transformational change. Finally, the course will reflect on experiences working with consultants and tips on getting the best impact out of consulting engagements when you are the client. |
