Course Description

The class will examine stylistic properties of the different fields of study at the business school, as well as differing expectations for each section of academic papers. We will do this by looking at the writing that students are already doing for their programs (whether it be class papers, academic articles or a dissertation). Principles of communication and writing will be discussed and applied to developing work and published samples.

We will do in-class exercises and presentations, working on writing clear sentences with strong transitions, discussing how to build these into sequenced paragraphs appropriate to different sections of a paper. A critical skill to be developed in this class is the ability to write a concise, proper, and relevant lit review.
