Course Description Lab-to-Market: Accelerating Biomedical Innovation is a 3-credit, semester-long course offered in partnership with the School of Engineering (SEAS), Columbia Business School (CBS) and Columbia's Life Science Accelerators (Biomedical Engineering Technology Accelerator (BiomedX), Therapeutics Accelerator (TRx), Accelerating Cancer Therapeutics (ACT). Students collaborate with experienced technical teams from the Accelerators to create aspects of a commercialization plan for real world, cutting-edge medical technologies currently under development. Students work closely with their interdisciplinary team to identify the clinical need, stakeholder requirements, and business case in order to de-risk the technology, increase commercial potential, and package the idea for follow-on investment. In the second half of the course, students will also gain exposure to life sciences entrepreneurship and investing with complementary case studies of real life science innovation to commercialization provided by entrepreneurial leaders in biotech and medtech.
