| Course Description | This advanced course builds upon foundational principles of healthcare finance and shifts the analytical focus to financial management from the perspective of health insurers and managed care organizations. Students examine how financial strategies, methodologies, and quantitative analyses are applied within the health insurance industry to support premium rate development, reimbursement design, and value-based payment models. The cpurse emphasizes the financial and operational dynamics between payers and providers, including the economic incentives, cost-containment mechanisms, and revenue optimization strategies that influence performance across both sectors. Through applied exercises and case-based analysis, students develop a practical understanding of how payment rates are calculated, negotiated, and structured between providers and payers. Students learn the impact to contracting decisions and profitability, network configuration, care delivery incentives, and overall healthcare affordability |
