Course Description | The goal of this course will be to subject the source materials about Jesus and the very beginnings of Christianity (before about 150 CE) to a strictly historical-critical examination and analysis, to try to understand the historical underpinnings of what we can claim to know about Jesus, and how Christianity arose as a new religion from Jesus life and teachings. In addition, since the search or quest for the historical Jesus has been the subject of numerous studies and books in recent times, we shall examine a selection of prominent historical Jesus works and theories to see how they stand up to critical scrutiny from a historical perspective. |
