Course Description | This graduate colloquium will introduce you to the literature of colonial Latin American history, discussing both new and early books. The sequence of topics covered will broadly follow the evolution of the field: from narrative history and demography to social history, then on to gender history, ethnohistory, the African presence, and examples of recent research on law, environment, the Atlantic, intellectual history, to conclude with a class that revisits new trends in the history of the conquest. |
