Course Description | This course will address the relationship between language and power from a philosophical perspective. We will investigate questions such as: How does language influence the way we think of gender, race, society, and politics? What are the limits, if any, on free speech? In what ways, if any, can language be used to harm people? Topics may include hate speech, trigger warnings, slurs, dog whistles, propaganda, and silencing.
