Course Description | Krzysztof Kieslowski - This seminar in Auteur Study explores the cinematic work of the renowned Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieslowski, best known for such classics as Three Colors: Blue, White, Red and Decalogue. Special attention will be paid to the latter - ten 1-hour films loosely based on the 10 Commandments - considered a towering achievement of poetic style as well as spiritual vision. Through in-class screenings, discussions, and readings, we will focus on the formal, political and thematic richness of his films. Requirements include weekly attendance, punctuality, classroom participation, a midterm paper (5 - 7 pages), and a final paper (10 - 12 pages). |
