This course examines how postmodernism’s profound distrust of language and narrative transforms the form and function of literature. Writers include James Baldwin, Joan Didion, Frank O’Hara, Elizabeth Bishop, Paul Auster, John Ashbery, J.M. Coetzee, Marilynne Robinson, Toni Morrison, Don DeLillo, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Lyn Hejinian.
