Course Description | This class investigates the ways in which the lives of ancient Egyptians differed based on their gender, ethnicity, class, age, and profession, as well as the time and locale in which they lived. It looks also at law, religion, wisdom literature, and at the communities of two well-documented towns: Middle Kingdom Kahun and New Kingdom Deir el-Bahari. By investigating specific communities—as well as Egyptian social life more generally—students will gain a nuanced appreciation for the ways in which a variety of ancient Egyptians lived their lives, viewed their world, acted to better their personal circumstances, asserted their own identities, and even interpreted their dreams. |
