| Course Description | Prerequisites: (CIEN E4232) or instructors permission. Properties of materials used in prestressed concrete; pre-tensioning versus post-tensioning; loss of prestress due to elastic shortening, friction, anchorage slip, shrinkage, creep and relaxation; full versus partial prestressing; design of beams for flexure, shear and torsion; method of load balancing; anchorage zone design; calculation of deflection by the lump-sum and incremental time-step methods; continuous beams; composite construction; prestressed slabs and columns. |
