Course Description | This course explores the Crusades from the perspective of those who were invaded. We will place most emphasis on the period from 1095 to 1291, from the First Crusade to the moment when the Mamluks expelled the Latin Crusaders from the Middle East. Through both secondary sources and primary sources, we will aim to understand how Muslims, Jews, and Eastern Christians responded to the presence of invaders from Latin Europe. |
