| Course Description | Fundamentals of Linear Algebra including vector and Matrix algebra, solution of linear systems, existence and uniqueness, gaussian elimination, gauss-jordan elimination, the matrix inverse, elementary matrices and the LU factorization, computational cost of solutions. Vector spaces and subspaces, linear independence, basis and dimension. The 4 fundamental subspaces of a matrix. Orthogonal projection onto a subspace and solution of Linear Least Squares problems, unitary matrices, inner products, orthogonalization algorithms and the QR factorization, applications. Determinants and applications. Eigen problems including diagonalization, symmetric matrices, positive-definite systems, eigen factorization and applications to dynamical systems and iterative maps. Introduction to the singular value decomposition and its applications. |
